This is a shocking way to start off a Friday. Microsoft has announced that CEO Steve Ballmer will retire in the next 12 months. He addresses the situation in an open letter to the company, saying “we need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.” The new direction Ballmer speaks of is the change to a devices and services company. Ballmer will officially step down after the process of choosing a replacement is complete.
The committee to choose a new CEO includes the likes of Bill Gates and other prominent members at Microsoft. Ballmer has been an interesting figure, to say the least, but his electric antics will sure be missed. He has made some questionable decisions in the past, but it seems he has Microsoft on the right path now. Ballmer joined Gates at Microsoft in 1980, and has been CEO since 2000. Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye!
