Microsoft Evangelist Says All Current Devices Will Recieve WP8

Joe Fedewa is 23 years old and lives near Lansing, Michigan. He's been interested in technology ever since he got his first flip phone. Since then he's evolved from flip phones to smartphones, and become even more interested in everything from cord cutting to web browsers. Joe is also an avid sports fan and sci-fi movie geek. He's a Joe of all trades.

A lot of people are concerned about what devices will be upgraded to Windows Phone 8. Some people in our forums have even said that they refuse to buy a new device until they are for sure it will receive a WP8 update. That is a concern for not only Microsoft, but also Nokia who is trying to sell a lot of phones *right now*.

Nuno Silva, a Microsoft Evangelist, was asked in an interview if current devices would be upgraded to WP8. His answer is very clear:

Q: In terms of devices, who today have one is it expectable that…

A: What Microsoft said/stated and what I’m allowed to tell you is that all actual devices will get upgrade to the next major version of Windows Phone (we´re talking about Apollo)

Q: When you say actual devices. Are all that came out to market?

A: Are all that came out. Since the first generation that were bought. The LGs and SAMSUNGs.. OMNIA 7 which were the first devices with Windows Phone reaching the market.

Hopefully that is enough to convince people that it’s okay to buy a current generation (or even first gen) device.

I call bullshit on that. There is just no way it will happen. It would require a ton of work to make the next updates work on older devices that, relatively, no one is using anyway. Leave them behind and push new devices with better specs.
