Windows Native Code Will Turn Windows 8 & Phone into Gaming Platforms

Ashley is a 26 year old with an enthusiasm for all things technology related. She hails from the Southern United States and when she's not tweaking her Android handset, she can usually be found in front of the computer or Xbox 360 enjoying the latest game releases.

Perhaps the biggest announcement of the day is native code for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, which will make porting code between the two platforms almost seamless. Developers will be able to take advantage of open source libraries to make their apps better, which means any games developed for Windows Phone 8 or Windows 8 can be cross-compatible between the two.

With Havok announced as a Windows Phone 8 partner, this means the Windows Phone 8 platform is poised to be one of the best platforms for gamers in the coming months. Havok is a physics engine that has been featured in numerous best selling games, such as the Assassin’s Creed series, Halo series, and Skyrim.

With native code, developers who develop for desktop are one step away from developing for mobile and vice versa.
