There have been conflicting reports on what Microsoft wants to do with their Surface tablets. Some says they are just trying to show OEMs what is possible, and they don’t really care about how many they sell. Others say this is their attempt to compete with Apple, and they will be trying to sell a lot of these. Microsoft seems to be somewhere in the middle.
At their Worldwide Partner Conference Microsoft announced that they plan on selling 375 million PCs in 2013, and “a few million” of them will be Surface tablets. Pricing will play a large role in determining how the Surface does. Consumers are starting to expect lower prices for tablets, and they might not want to pay over $600-700 even if it can act as a PC.
