Microsoft will be lifting the Windows RT licensing restrictions in January, which will allow other OEMs to take advantage of the new operating system for ARM-based tablets. According to China Times, several different companies have paired off in partnerships for chips, including ASUS and Lenovo with nVidia and Qualcomm with HP and Samsung.
All of these restrictions will be lifted in January, which will pave the way for new RT tablets. Currently only ASUS and Microsoft themselves have officially supported the ARM-architecture, though both Samsung and Dell are rumored to be working on tablets. There’s no word on whether or not HTC will be making an ARM-based tablet, as the company was initially denied the right to do so directly from Microsoft.
