Microsoft relents and allows mature games in the Windows Store

A couple weeks ago we announced the submission guidelines for the new Windows Store for Windows 8. One of the guidelines that didn’t make much sense were apps prohibited that received an ESRB rating above Mature or a PEGI 16 rating. While this wasn’t cause for much fuss for US customers, where the only rating above Mature is Adults Only, several games are classified as PEGI 16+, including some of Microsoft’s own series including Halo and Gears of War. Gamers thought the move hypocritical and it seems Microsoft agrees, as the restriction has now been lifted and games with a rating of PEGI 18 will be allowed within the Windows Store.
