Microsoft says Windows Phone 8 will run Windows Phone 7 apps, we say “duh”

Apparently there was a rumor going around that Windows Phone 7 apps would be incompatible with Windows Phone 8. We never reported on these rumors, because, frankly, they are insane. Windows Phone is lacking in apps, and everybody knows it. Microsoft would have to be pretty clueless to essentially start the Marketplace from scratch again. Brandom Watson, director of developer experience, has firmly shot these rumors down.

It’s likely that the next version of Windows Phone will have a higher screen resolution, and this will make apps look a little different. Apple went through the same thing when they put the Retina Display on the iPhone 4. Did they scrap the previously made apps? No, it just takes a little time for devs to scale their app appropriately. Let’s keep it together folks.
