Microsoft Surface sales reportedly at 1.5 million, 400,000 for Surface Pro

Microsoft has been pretty mum on Surface sales, but from what we’ve heard it’s been doing okay. Bloomberg is now reporting that Microsoft has sold around 1.5 million Surface devices so far. 400,000 of those devices are Surface Pro in just a month of being available. It’s obvious to see what model is more popular. In four months on the market just over a million Surface RT devices have been sold, but in just a month almost half a million Surface Pro devices have been sold.

Bloomberg also reports that Microsoft ordered three million Surface RT devices, which means they still have almost two million laying around somewhere. Microsoft has yet to give official sales numbers, so these numbers should all be taken with a grain of salt. Panos Panay has said that Surface Pro demand was higher than expected, which certainly seems plausible with these numbers. What about you guys? Surface Pro or RT?     Not spectacular comparatively speaking. But, considering the RT version has the highest profit margin - slightly more than the ipad at just under $300. So, MS has made approx $300-330mil on the RT in 5mo. MS could have easily tripled that with better branding, marketing and distro.

    At those prices, I can only see myself buying a Surface device if I will be using it as a full computer. I might go for a Pro later on this year, but there are just so many options at that price range!
