A problem with Windows Phone that we’ve mentioned in the past is name recognition. The name “Windows Phone” hearkens back to the days of Windows Mobile, which didn’t have the greatest exprieince. Even the name “Windows” itself doesn’t have the same type of recognition that is used to have. You will find that more people know what a “Lumia” is than Windows Phone. This is a problem.
At WPC 2012 Microsoft has talked about remedying this problem. Exec Thom Gruhler said this on the matter:
“Smartphone users today don’t know about Windows Phone and that’s a problem we intend to fix”
If you’re wondered who the heck this Gruher guy is you’ve probably seen his work. The “can you hear me now?” campaign for Verizon was all thanks to this guy, so it’s safe to say he knows how to get the message out about something. Let’s hope he works some magic like he did for Big Red.
