
It was revealed yesterday that Microsoft would make the Windows 8.1 update available in October. Today we have an even more precise release date, and some more information on how it will roll out. On October 18th the update will be made officially available in boxed copies and on new hardware. For existing Windows 8 users the update will be available in the Windows Store (for free) starting at 7AM ET on the 17th.
Windows 8.1 includes a wide variety of fixes, improvements, and new features. The update addresses many of the issues people had with Windows 8, such as lack of a Start Button.
