Qualcomm says the Lumia 2520 tablet blows away the Surface 2

The Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet and Microsoft Surface 2 have a lot in common. One area that they are different is processor. The Surface 2 has a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4 clocked at 1.7GHz, while the 2520 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz. Today Qualcomm has come out to boast about how much better the 2520 is compared to the Surface 2.

“The performance on the 2520 is brilliant. It’s really at the next level. It’s not even really a contest compared to Surface 2. In every area, it’s much bigger, faster, and lower power.”

Strong words. The Snapdragon is clocked higher, and probably does perform better overall, but we’re not so sure the Surface 2 is such a slouch. In speed tests the Surface 2 has performed well, and remarkably better than the original Surface RT. It will be interesting to see the 2520 and Surface 2 compared. Do you think Qualcomm is right? Will their processor outperform the Tegra 4?

    Tegra 4 is kind of a joke compared to Snapdragon 800. Snapdragon 800 devices are so fast and powerful. I really want to see how this tablet performs.

    i wouldn’t call tegra 4 a joke. it is one of the only SoC able to compete with Snapdragon 800 before samsung come out with Exynos 5420. its the SoC that qualcomm were confident to beat soundly with their Snapdragon 600. also since snapdragon is faster why microsoft did not use snapdragon on their primary windows RT product? clearly there is more than just faster hardware alone to make up that decision.

    It’s not a joke, but Snapdragon 800 is substantially better than Tegra 4. And you said it yourself: even Snapgradon 600 was better than Tegra 4. And Snapdragon 800 is MUCH better than 600.

    I have used devices with all of these processors and I must tell you the difference is REALLY noticeable. You are right, a lot of factors come into play when choosing which processor to use.

    For one, Tegra processors tend to be more affordable, and software can be optimized to make the device fast. But that doesn’t make Tegra 4 as good. They could also customize devices for Snapdragon 800 and make it even better.

    tegra 4 even manages to beat bloody bay trail in graphics at least.
